In 2005, Lon and his wife Joanne were called to restart a small country church with a declining congregation. As they worked to revitalize the church—which would become House of Praise near Albany, New York—they saw people giving their lives to Jesus. But Lon quickly realized a glaring problem: the discipleship resources available were often overly complicated and disconnected from the needs of brand-new Christians.
He needed a tool that was simple, practical, and accessible. So, he wrote My Next Steps: I'm a Follower of Jesus, Now What? specifically for his own congregation's new believers. As other pastors saw the material and requested it for their own churches, Lon rewrote the book for broader church culture, releasing it as What's Next? by Lon Dean.
Today, the book is used by many churches to ground their new believers in the faith.

Beyond his local congregation, Lon has a deep passion for biblical freedom and deliverance ministry. He has taught his Setting the Captives Free seminar on three continents and has supervised deliverance teams at international crusades alongside leaders like Randy Clark and Carlos Annacondia.
His speaking and training have taken him across the United States, Canada, the UK, Argentina, Brazil, Kenya, and beyond, equipping church leaders to build healthy, growing congregations.
Lon is an active member of Ministers Fellowship International (MFI) and the International Society of Deliverance Ministers (ISDM).
